As Byju’s struggles to keep its business going, the edtech major is drawing flak from disgruntled customers seeking refunds. One such family was seen carrying away a large TV from a Byju’s office after reportedly not getting the requested refund.
This comes as Enforcement Directorate asked the Bureau of Immigration to issue a look-out circular against Byju’s founder and CEO Byju Ravendran, according to The Economic Times.
In the viral video, the family claims they sought a refund for an unused tablet and learning programme within the stipulated period but the company allegedly delayed the refund.
After weeks of back and forth, the student and his parents came to the office and dismantled the wall-mounted TV. As the father and son carries away the TV, the former can be heard telling the office staff: “Take it when you pay the refund”.
In August 2023, it was revealed that more than 50 per cent of Byju’s tuition centre customers sought refund since 2021, according to internal data obtained by Money Control. From November 9, 2021 to July 11, 2023, out of 75,000 subscribers, a total of 43,625 submitted refund requests and of these 41,198 were processed. Byju’s had, however, said the report was “wildly inaccurate” though they did not release the actual figures.
The latest video, viewed by 1.5 lakh Instagram users, has raised concerns regarding the edtech major’s customer refund policy.
